Description
Edward William Pritchard (1825-1865), Scottish murderer and doctor. Following an anonymous letter to the authorities, the bodies of Pritchard's mother-in-law and wife were exhumed and it was discovered that they had died of antimony poisoning. Pritchard was convicted of their murder in July 1865, and sentenced to death. He was hanged on Glasgow Green in front of a large crowd, and was the last person to be publicly executed in Glasgow. Artwork from A complete report of the trial of Dr Pritchard... (Edinburgh, 1865).
