Description
Image of a dust storm sweeping across the centre of the frame. It occurred in the Sahara desert on the border between Algeria and Niger and the image was taken from the Space Shuttle Endeavour on mission STS-49 (7-16 May 1992). The storm is moving north-northwest (top left of the frame); small cumulus clouds have formed over the most vigorously ascending parts of the dust front. Dust storms in the Sahara desert may move out into the Atlantic and carry dust as far as the Americas on some occasions.
