Description
Dust electrostatics. Illustration of an electrostatic discharge (blue) between two dust particles. Some materials become flammable when in powdered form. This include coal dust and aluminium powder. Health and safety research in the UK started with investigations in the early 20th century into safety in mines, particularly in relation to coal dust explosions. This illustration is from the UK's Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL).
