Description
London dome ear trumpet by F. C. Rein. Ear trumpets were used to aid those with difficulties in hearing. Sound waves enter the wide 'sound collecting' dome and become amplified as they pass along the narrow tube and into the earpiece. The tip of the earpiece is placed in the ear canal of the user, amplification of the sound makes it easier to hear. This piece is complete with decorative grille and is made from engraved plated brass. It was made in England, around the year 1860. F. C. Rein and Son, founded in London in 1800, were a leading manufacturer of acoustic instruments for hearing up until the early twentieth century.
