Dissected cadaver with flayed skin. Artwork from Juan Valverde de Amusco's Anatomia del Corpo Humano (Anatomy of the Human Body), published 1560, showing a dissected cadaver holding a dissecting knife and his skin. The superficial muscles of the head, torso and limbs have been revealed. Valverde was a medieval anatomist born in Spain in 1525.
