Description
Skin section, polarised light micrograph. The outer most layer of skin is the stratum corneum, it consists of dead cells that act as a protective barrier. It is part of the epidermis (orange and red). Beneath the epidermis is the dermis (purple), a thick layer of connective tissue. Beneath that is the hypodermis, which contains adipose (fat) cells (light blue circles). Magnification: x7 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
