Description
Dermatophyte fungal culture (white) in a tube. The fungus is growing in a sabouraud-chloramphenicol agar. The term dermatophyte fungus refers to three fungal genera (Epidermophyton, Microsporum and Trichophyton) that are parasites on human skin and cause the class of diseases known as ringworm (also known as tinea). An example is tinea pedis, or athlete's foot. The agar is a growing medium that provides nutrients for the growth of the fungus.
