Description
Curiosity rover's MAHLI camera. Close-up of the MAHLI (Mars Hand Lens Imager) camera on the turret of tools at the end of NASA's Curiosity rover's robotic arm. The MAHLI lens cover (centre, circular) appears red in colour due to the silicone RTV 'glue' used for the lens. The mechanism at right is Curiosity's dust removal tool, a motorized wire brush. The Martian landscape is in the background. This image was obtained by Curiosity's Mast Camera on 5 September 2012, during the rover's 30th Martian day (sol). Curiosity, the rover for the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission, landed in the Gale Crater on Mars on 6 August 2012.
