Description
Curiosity rover's landing site. 360-degree panoramic mosaic view of the landing site of NASA's Curiosity rover. Curiosity, the rover for the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission, landed in the Gale Crater on Mars on 6 August 2012. Areas of interest include the grey areas in the foreground where the descent stage's rocket engines blasted the ground. The dark strip of dunes across top centre will also be investigated. This mosaic of 130 images was obtained in the late Martian afternoon by the rover's 34mm Mast Camera on 8 August 2012. The images were brightened in processing, as Mars only receives half Earth's sunlight.
