Description
Cross section of a developing tulip bud (Tulipa sp.). Tulips belong to the lily family and are native to Africa and Eurasia. The central pistil (female component of the flower) is surrounded by six anthers (male component), each with four lobes containing maturing pollen grains. The anthers are in turn surrounded by six petals. Magnification: x10 at 10 cm wide.
