Description
Craters on Mercury, MESSENGER image. North is towards top left. This area, over 1900 kilometres across, consists mostly of as-yet unnamed craters in the eastern part of the Solitudo Persephones quadrangle in the southern hemisphere of Mercury, the planet closest to the Sun. Craters include Magritte (lower left), Neruda (far centre left), and Sher-Gil (upper left). The Disney ('Mickey Mouse') set of craters (bottom left) is directly left of the Magritte crater. The MESSENGER spacecraft entered orbit around Mercury in March 2011. Image obtained on 17 December 2012, by the Wide Angle Camera (WAC) of the Mercury Dual Imaging System (MDIS).
