Description
Cosmetic whole leg bones. Metal prosthesis to be implanted in a leg to replace the bones that are removed for donation to a bone bank. This simple implant is used to replace bone donated from a dead person. This cosmetic measure preserves the appearance of the body for viewing before burial. The hip (upper left) and knee (centre) joints are seen. The removed bone is stored and processed by the bone bank for use in treating bone disease and for bone surgery. Photographed at the bone bank at the Rizzoli Institute, Bologna, Italy.
