Comets are bodies of ice and dust that enter the inner solar system from the outer solar system. Near the Sun, the ice boils, producing a coma around the nucleus and a tail behind it. Image dates are: 24 September, 11 October, 27 October, 6 November, 10 November, 15 November. Formally C/2012 S1, it is also known as Comet Nevski–Novichonok. A sungrazing comet discovered on 21 September 2012, it disintegrated as it reached perihelion (closest approach to the Sun) on 28 November 2013.
