Description
Forest fire. Satellite image of smoke (grey, upper right and bottom right) from a forest fire in the Hayman region of Colorado, USA. This image, taken in infrared, shows the burnt area in purple/black. Healthy vegetation is green. The image was taken on 20 June 2002. The Hayman fire was the largest recorded forest fire in the history of Colorado. The severity of the fire was due to a combination of a drought producing dry vegetation, and strong winds spreading the fire. The fire started from a campsite fire. Image taken by the Ikonos satellite.
