Description
Collared earthstar fungus (Geastrum triplex) releasing spores. This species of fungi reproduces by releasing asexual spores into the air, which are then dispersed by the wind to colonise new habitats. When they settle, the spores will germinate, growing into new mushrooms. This earthstar fungus is inedible and appears in the autumn. Photographed in Lancashire, UK.
