Description
Coffee plant (Coffea sp.) with a green snake, 18th-century illustration. Coffee beans are roasted and ground, and an infusion made from the ground beans is drunk. This drink contains the stimulant drug caffeine. This plant is described as 'Caffena vera Floridanorum', and appeared in 'The natural history of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands' (1731-1743) by British naturalist Mark Catesby (1683-1749).
