Description
Chrome vanadium-steel parts. Array of metal components made from an alloy of vanadium (V) and steel, itself an alloy of iron (Fe) and carbon (C). The alloy is also coated with chromium (Cr) to reduce corrosion, a process achieved by electroplating and called chrome plating. Vanadium-steel alloys typically contain less than 0.25 percent vanadium, but this still provides a large increase in strength. Chrome plating is done both to prevent corrosion and to increase the hardness of the metal surface. All three metal elements are transition metals.
