Description
Chinese owl moth (Brahmaea hearseyi) chrysalids. This moth is found in western China and south-eastern Asia. The larva goes through several stages of development with distinctive appearances. The chrysalids, the stage where the larva metamorphoses into the adult form, go through stages where the outer chitin covering ranges from black (as seen here) to transparent and colourful. Photographed in China.
