Description
Chart of the large southern constellation Centaurus (The Centaur) showing most of the stars visible with the naked eye on a clear dark night. The location of the closest star to the Solar System, Proxima Centauri, is marked with a red circle. Proxima Centauri is too faint to see with the unaided eye but can be found using a small telescope. A planet, Proxima b, was discovered to be orbiting Proxima Centauri on the 24th August 2016. It is within the star's habitable zone, where the temperature may be suitable for liquid water to exist on its surface.
