Description
Centaurus A radio galaxy (NGC 5128). Composite image of the radio galaxy Centaurus A. This galaxy, which includes a large dust lane, has a supermassive black hole powering its two lobed jets (not seen in this optical view), parts of which are traveling at half the speed of light. The data is from the Hubble Space Telescope, the WFI sensor on the MPG/ESO telescope, and the FORS sensor on the VLT (Very Large Telescope). This galaxy, in the constellation of Centaurus, is around 11 million light years from Earth.
