Description
Centaurus A radio galaxy (NGC 5128). Combined X-ray, radio and optical image of the radio galaxy Centaurus A. This galaxy, which includes a large dust lane, has a supermassive black hole powering its two lobed jets, part of which are traveling at half the speed of light. Radio data (orange) is from the APEX telescope. X-ray data (blue) is from the Chandra X-ray Observatory. Visible light data is from the WFI sensor on the MPG/ESO telescope. This galaxy is located in the constellation of Centaurus and is around 11 million light years from Earth. The area seen here is around 80,000 light years across. This image was published in 2009.
