Description
Cartwheel galaxy and its companion spiral galaxies taken by the James Webb Space Telescope's (JWST) Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCAm). The Cartwheel Galaxy is a ring galaxy located 500 million light years in the constellation Sculptor. It was formed 400 million years ago as a result of a high-speed collision between a spiral galaxy and a smaller galaxy (not visible). The Cartwheel Galaxy has a bright inner ring and an active outer ring. Blue dots among the dust shows stars or areas of star formation.
