Description
George Carey Foster (1835-1919), British physicist and chemist. Foster studied organic chemistry, then heat, light, and electricity. In 1865, he became a professor of physics at University College, London. He invented the Carey Foster bridge for measuring low resistances. Elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1869, he was also closely associated with the British Association for the Advancement of Science (BAAS). He was an editor of the Philosophical Magazine from 1911. Foster was President of the Institution of Electrical Engineers in 1881.
