Description
Burroughs with US industrialists. US naturalist and conservationist John Burroughs (centre, 1837-1921) flanked by US industrialists Thomas Alva Edison (left, 1847-1931) and Henry Ford (right, 1863-1947). Burroughs, the 'Grand Old Man of Nature' and a key figure in the US conservation movement, published over 23 volumes of nature essays between 1867 and 1922. Edison's numerous patents on his inventions included the electric light bulb and the phonograph. Ford, a good friend of Edison, founded the Ford Motor Company and pioneered assembly line techniques for mass production. Photographed on 16 March 1914, at Edison's home in Fort Myers, Florida, USA.
