Description
Computer graphics space-filling representation of a molecule of Buckminsterfullerene (C60), the blue spheres, opened up to reveal an embedded molecule of ethane. Buckminsterfullerene is the name given to a novel form of carbon consisting of 60 carbon atoms connected in the pattern that resembles the panels of a football. Its name is derived from that of the architect, Richard Buckminster Fuller, who used icosahedral geometry in his designs of geodesic domes. This image is non- physical & is intended as an illustration of how C60 might be used as molecular packaging", to enclose smaller molecules."
