Bromination of phenol. Bromine water being added to phenol (or hydroxybenzene, C6H5OH). A white suspension of 2,4,6-tribromophenol (C6H2Br3OH) is beginning to form. The product is used in the manufacture of flame retardant materials, and in pharmaceutical preparations as an antiseptic.
