Description
Brittle stars on a gorgonian. Ophiura brittle stars wrapped around a gorgonian on a coral reef. A brittle star is a marine invertebrate that is related to starfish. It has five flexible arms radiating from a central disc-shaped body, which means that unlike starfish it can use its arms to walk on the sea floor. A gorgonian is a coral-like colony of polyps that form a tough structure (red) around themselves for protection and support. Photographed in the Indian Ocean in the Maldives.
