Description
MODEL RELEASED. Bone marrow transplant: scientist works in sterile, laminar flow cupboard to prepare white blood cells, filtered & centrifuged from donated bone marrow, ready for transplant. The technique attempts to treat blood disorders such as severe aplastic anaemia and some types of leukaemia. A high degree of tissue compatibility is necessary between donor & recipient, who will most often be related. Depending on the type of illness, some pretransplant conditioning - chemotherapy and/or whole body irradiation - is required, to irradicate any underlying illness and prevent rejection of the donor marrow. Model: Joseph Kirkley
