Description
MODEL RELEASED. Bioceramic used in bone reconstruction. Technician pipetting a solution of cells onto a segment of bioceramic material. This porous material is made of hydroxyapatite ceramic. It is being infiltrated with precursor cells known as bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs), which develop into human bone cells. The bioceramic segment is being prepared for implantation into a patient with bone damage. When in place, the production of bone cells from the BMSCs leads to the formation of fully functional bone tissue. The material was developed by a research team at Genoa University, Italy. The technician is working in a sterile hood and wearing protective clothing.
