Description
MODEL RELEASED. Plankton research. Biological researcher in a boat collecting samples of plankton from the sea. Plankton consists of a range of tiny organisms which mainly live in the upper levels of the sea. Plankton forms the basis of the marine food chain, providing sustenance for a number of larger organisms, including species of fish and whales. The specific objects of the collection seen here are salps. These are tunicates which are a few centimetres long. These animals are filter feeders, sifting out smaller planktonic organisms from the water.
