Description
Hubble Telescope servicing. Astronauts perform an ExtraVehicular Activity (EVA or spacewalk") during a space shuttle mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The astronauts are collecting tools from a tool box (at bottom centre) before they begin their work on the telescope (background). Photograph of Steven Smith (left) and Mark Lee in the cargo bay of the Discovery shuttle during mission STS-82 (11-21 February 1997). This mission was the second to service the HST since its launch in 1990. During the servicing, improved instruments were added and some aging components were replaced. The shuttle also lifted the HST into a slightly higher orbit."
