Description
Mission specialist Pierre J. Thuot looks into the cabin of the Space Shuttle Endeavour while performing an Extravehicular Activity (EVA). The main goal of mission STS-49 (7-16 May 1992), the first of Shuttle Endeavour, was to install a new perigee kick motor on the INTELSAT VI (F3) communications satellite. This satellite was launched on March 14th 1990 by a Titan rocket but, due to a failure, it was not raised to its geosynchronous orbit. The satellite was captured by three crew members and brought into the cargo bay where the new motor was installed. In this operation, for the first time in the Shuttle's history, three astronauts participated in an EVA.
