Description
Polarised light micrograph of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) crystals. Aspirin is a drug that has been used since antiquity in the form of plants such as willow that contain salicylic acid. Aspirin is administered to treat pain, fever or inflammation. It is also given to patients after a heart attack and is used to prevent future heart attacks and blood clots by thinning the blood.
