Description
Artificial hip joints. Shafts of two prosthetic hip joints embedded in cut-away femurs (thigh bones). A ball fits on the head of each shaft and forms the hip joint with a socket that is attached to the pelvis. The majority of hip replacements are needed due to osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease that results in the loss of cartilage between the joint and the growth of bone in place of the cartilage.
