Description
Arctic hares (Lepus arcticus) on rocks. These hares live in the Arctic tundra and mountains of northern Europe, Asia and North America. Most develop this white colouration in the autumn as camouflage in the snow. However, those in the northernmost parts of the range may keep their white fur all year round. Arctic hares are often solitary, but may also form large groups of several hundred individuals. They are herbivorous, feeding on a wide variety of plants. Photographed in Greenland.
