Description
Apollo Soyuz Test Project crew training. Portrait of the US crew of the Apollo Soyuz Test Project (ASTP) during training. The ASTP mission was the first joint international manned space-flight. It took place from 15-24th July 1975. The Russian Soyuz 19 spacecraft, carrying Soviet cosmonauts Alexey Leonov (born 1934) and Valeri Kubasov (1935-2014), docked with the US Apollo CSM-111 spacecraft, carrying US astronauts Thomas Stafford (born 1930), Donald Slayton (1924-1993) and Vance Brand (born 1931), in orbit on 17th July to test a jointly-designed international docking mechanism.
