Description
Apollo lunar landing module. This is a training version of the landing module, on display at Mission Control in Houston, Texas, USA. This type of landing module was successfully used in six of the Apollo missions. It could hold a crew of two, and a total of twelve US astronauts were landed on the Moon's surface between July 1969 and December 1972. At left is the ladder used by the astronauts to descend to the surface of the Moon. Each lunar module comprised both a descent and an ascent stage. The ascent stage was used to transport the astronauts back to lunar orbit, leaving the descent stage behind on the Moon's surface.
