Description
Apollo 16 exploration of the Moon. Panoramic image of the landing site of Apollo 16, the fifth and penultimate mission of the US Apollo space program, which put 12 men on the moon between 1969 and 1972. The Apollo 16 mission was launched on 16 April 1972. The lunar module (Orion) landed on the Moon five days later in the Descartes Highlands. The crew conducted three sorties (20 hours and 14 minutes), with this electric lunar roving vehicle allowing them to travel up to 10 kilometres away. This panoramic image is a montage of images taken by Apollo 16's crew. The two astronauts exploring the Moon's surface were Charles Duke and John Young.
