John J. R. Macleod (1876-1935), Scottish physician, physiologist, biochemist and Nobel laureate, wearing an academic gown. Macleod shared the 1923 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with Frederick Grant Banting. The share of the Nobel was awarded for Macleod's discovery of insulin and its use as a treatment for diabetes.
