Description
Antarctic cruise ship. Tourists in calm weather on a morning cruise through the Lemaire Channel, off the Antarctic Peninsula. The ship is the Scandinavian-built icebreaker Akademik Sergey Vavilov, originally built for Russian science research. It is now mostly used for tourism in the Antarctic and the Arctic. For this voyage it was operated by a Russian crew, and staffed by the tourism company Quark Expeditions. It has a capacity for around 100 passengers. Photographed in 2011.
