Description
Aniline dyeing industry, 19th century. Illustration of sealed pressure equipment used in the production of artificial dyes. These include aniline, a blue dye first isolated from indigo in the 1820s. The industry was founded by Hofmann and Perkins in the 1850s. Artwork from volume 9 (1870) of a republication of 'Les Grandes Usines', a multi-volume work on French industry by journalist and author Julien Turgan (1824-1887).
