Description
Anaesthesia mask, circa 1900. This is a McCardie wire frame mask. The wire frame was covered with cotton gauze and placed over the patient's mouth and nose. Then volatile liquid anaesthetic (such as ether or chloroform) was dripped on it, allowing the patient to inhale a mix of the evaporated anaesthetic and air.
