Description
MODEL RELEASED. All-terrain robots. Roboticist Laura Woodbury operating the all-terrain robot Micro-ATRV (centre left). The larger ATRV-2 is also seen. These remote-control vehicles were designed by the Research Robot Division of iRobot. They each have a low centre of gravity, a weather- resistant outer coating, and multiple sensors for vision, communications and navigation. ATRV-2 can carry loads of 90 kilograms. Both robots were designed for a variety of outdoor uses, including searching for land mines and mapping rough terrain. A camera on the front of Micro-ATRV provides a robot-eye view on the control pad. Photographed in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, USA.
