Description
Aerospace test area decontamination. Thermal coatings engineer placing a MAC (Molecular Adsorber Coating) panel in a thermal vacuum chamber where the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) will be tested. The MAC panels are designed to capture airborne contaminants. They adsorb gas molecules on a sprayable paint consisting of zeolite and a colloidal silica binder. The JWST is an infrared telescope that is scheduled to be launched in 2018. It will also study dark matter, thought to form the majority of the matter in the universe. Photographed in May 2015, in Chamber A at the Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas, USA.
