Description
Environmental effects of the Gulf War. Aerial view of wrecked and burnt-out vehicles alongside the Jahra Road in Kuwait. The Jahra Road was the main supply route for the Iraqi forces in Kuwait during their occupation. When allied air attacks began on 15 January 1991, the road was targeted almost constantly. The roadside is now littered with wrecked and rusting trucks and lorries. In addition, there are many cars and buses that were abandoned during the Iraqi forces' retreat. Disposal of these has a low priority in Kuwait as it faces up to the environmental effects of the Gulf War.
