Leather tanning industry, 19th-century illustration. Workers in a tannery workshop preparing sumac skins to be made into expensive morocco leather. A tannery is where animal skins are turned into leather. Chemicals are used to make the skins tough yet soft. Further processing includes polishing and dyeing of the leathers. Artwork published in 1867.
