Description
Michael Faraday. Portrait of Michael Faraday (1791-1867), British chemist and physicist. Faraday was born into poverty & poorly educated. He became a laboratory assistant at the Royal Society. In 1825 he discovered benzene, but is better known for studies on electrolysis and electromagnetic phenomena. His electromagnetic research formed the background for the unified electromagnetic theory elaborated by James Maxwell. In 1832 Faraday formulated the Laws of Electrolysis which dictate the behaviour of a chemical solution in electric currents. He devised the first electric motor and equipment such as transformers and dynamos.
