Description
Natural History Museum's Diplodocus. Gathering of museum trustees and guests at the 1pm presentation on 12 May 1905 of the Diplodocus exhibit in the Hall of Reptiles at the Museum of Natural History, London, UK. The exhibit, 26 metres long, is a replica of a fossil skeleton held at the Carnegie Museum, USA. Lord Avebury (one of the trustees) is giving a speech, and others present included Andrew Carnegie (who donated the replica), and the musuem's director. The exhibit was moved to the Central Hall in 1979. Here, the tail is dragging on the ground. Later research led to this being changed to a raised position in 1993.
