Description
Anaesthesia mask, circa 1890. This is a Tyrell wire frame mask which would be used with a fabric cover. Volatile liquid anaesthetic (such as ether or chloroform) was dripped on it, allowing the patient to inhale a mix of the evaporated anaesthetic and air. The mask has a central feed tube (top) which could be connected to a supply of oxygen, or to a chloroform inhaler.
