Description
Thought-controlled wheelchair. Researcher attaching EEG electrodes to a skull cap being used as a brain-machine interface to control a wheelchair. A gel is being used to improve conductivity. This system uses sixteen electrodes placed in contact with the user's scalp on the upper part of the skull. After a period of training with the computer control system, which includes elements of artificial intelligence, the user can send steering instructions by thought alone. Photographed at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland. This technology was developed at the EPFL's neuroprosthetics centre in 2010.
